Princeton NJ Fire and Smoke Damage

A fire caused smoke and soot damage to the attic of this Princeton home.  The homeowner contacted SERVPRO of Bordentown/Pemberton right away to help make it like it never even happened.  In addition to the cleaning the rest of the home, the technicians removed the insulation in the attic because it holds onto odors.  Soot was cleaned from each with dry cleaning sponges, sanded, and sealed.  The process was completed in 5 days, much to the customer's delight.

What is soot?  Soot is a black powdery or flaky substance consisting laurgely of amorphous carbon, produced by the incomplete burning of organic matter. The process that forms it also makes it slightly sticky, and it can be found clinging to things as a result.  If left on surfaces too long, it can set in permanently, leaving odors or damaging the integrity of fixtures and materials.
